So just in case you weren’t aware, tomorrow (June 13) is Ottawa, Canada’s 613 Day! It turns out that celebrating a city’s area code, similar to Atlanta’s 404 Day, is quite a trend across North America. As a company that sells local phone numbers, we’re certainly not complaining.
If you’re a local and want to join in on the festivities, make sure to show up at Club SAW (Address: 67 Nicholas St, Ottawa). The celebration will run from 5 PM until late, rain or shine, with both indoor and outdoor activities planned. There will be live music, food vendors, and performances from local DJs. 1
Highlights include performances by notable artists like OkNaledi and Lucila x Maracle, with additional music provided by DJs curated by Core Collective. The event is free to attend, with RSVP available via their Facebook event page.
After doing some light research on the topic, I noticed that this year the party will join forces with the Ottawa Fringe Festival. For tickets and info, check out their website—seems like a super cool collection of artistic shows, totally on the fringe! 2
In both cases, I’m assuming the event organizers are well aware but I see no mention of Ottawa and the fact it uses the 613 area code on their websites. I guess it’s one of those things that goes without saying. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Random fun fact: Apparently there is also a 613 flea market in Ottawa. 3
So, a little on the 613 area code. This area code covers a variety of geographical and cultural regions, including cities like Ottawa, Kingston, and Cornwall. Ottawa, as the capital city of Canada, is the most prominent location within this area code.
The 613 area code is also culturally significant, linking various communities across Eastern Ontario and even extending into some regions of Quebec like Saint-Régis in the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory. This uniquely allows for local calls across the international border to my home state of New York! Who would have known?
After researching the events and the people behind them, had I come across this earlier, I would have loved to join in on the festivities. Canadians are great people, and it sounds like it’s going to be a super fun day.
Oh, and of course, if you need a 613 Ottawa phone number—just let us know.
